Description
Walking Near Deadman's Pond on Signal Hill Newfoundland and Labrador by Barbara Griffin. Hikers can be seen walking around Deadman's Pond, below Gibbet Hill Lookout, which was given its name because of the gallows that was erected on the site for executions in the 1700's. Many times they displayed bodies of offenders as a deterrent to further crime. The bodies were preserved in tar and were left there for a long time. Some say Deadman's Pond is bottomless and bodies were thrown in it, but it is highly unlikely that it is bottomless. The capital city of St. John's is in the background and beyond that is the Atlantic Ocean.
