Description
Lucky by Barbara Griffin. The word lucky means different things to different people. Can certain things bestow luck on us, such as a four-leaf clover? Can a rabbits paw bring good luck? The rabbit wasn't so lucky. Is luck something that we own or is it a meaningful coincidence, synchronicity, faith or a supernatural occurrence? We all know for sure that it is out of our control; we cannot will it or reason with it, but we can wish and pray for it to happen to us.
In some religions, the concept of luck is frowned upon. Buddha taught his followers to not believe in luck, instead he believed trying to create luck such as with palmistry, divining, or interpreting dreams to be a 'low art'. Despite this many Buddhist wear verses or lucky amulets, that have been blessed by monks, as protection against harmful events. Hindus on the other hand pray to Lakshmi for good luck and fortune. The Catholic Church looks at ascribing good fortune to objects as a form of superstition or worshiping false idols. But to wish someone good luck is to wish God's fortune, or God's blessings upon them. Catholics are encouraged instead to pray for the intercession of saints to bring good fortune and luck.
